For any team building or deploying AI-powered products, understanding these frameworks is no longer a compliance checkbox — it's a product design constraint.
The EU AI Act: Risk Tiers in Practice
The EU AI Act entered full enforcement earlier this year, and its risk-tiered approach is now shaping real product decisions. The framework categorizes AI applications into four tiers: unacceptable risk (banned outright), high risk (extensive compliance obligations), limited risk (transparency requirements), and minimal risk (largely unregulated).

For teams building AI products with any international footprint, three things are worth building into your planning now:
First, assume the EU AI Act applies to you if your product is used by EU residents, regardless of where your company is incorporated. Extraterritorial scope is real.
Second, invest in documentation infrastructure early. The highest compliance cost in the EU AI Act isn't the technical requirements — it's the documentation burden. Teams that build model cards, system cards, and audit logs into their development workflow from the start will have a significant advantage over those who retrofit them later.
Third, treat regulatory variance as a product architecture constraint. If you're building for multiple markets, your AI feature design needs to accommodate different content moderation requirements, different data residency needs, and different audit trail requirements — ideally without maintaining parallel codebases.
